Description: Established from a clone of HL-60 cells (see BCRC 60027) which has been grown at an elevated pH of 7.6-7.8 for 2 months; the line was selected for its ability to differentiate to eosinophils when treated with butyric acid; initially, 80% of the treated cells will differentiate as eosinophils; however, with continued passage the line will gradually exhibit a modest degree of reversion such that a higher percentage of the cells will exhibit neutrophilic differentiation; these cells express IL-5 receptors and the eosinophil granule proteins: eosinophil major basic protein (MBP), eosinophil peroxidase (EPO), eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), and eosinophil-derived neurotoxin (EDN); they exhibit chemotaxis to eosinophil-specific eosinophilotactins.
